The Moon and Her Star Chapter One: The Sun The Moon and The Star
In the cool night air there was a slight breeze that carried a stray leaf across the air on it's back, floating in a beautiful fluttering way as it trailed lazily past the snout of a tall and slender alicorn pony. The royal purple coat of the young mare was soft and smooth, her mane and tail a deep lavender, she looked up into the sky, millions of conflicting thoughts bounced around in her head. She breathed deeply with a steady rhythm and the stars seemed to glow and fade with the rising and falling of her slim flank, she looked beautiful in the moonlight, though sad. She continued to gaze out over the horizon at the endless field of glowing lights. As a solitary tear rolled down her lovely face, a single star fell slowly from the sky.
It was early in the evening as a young pony trotted through the marble corridors of the palace, her light lavender coat freshly groomed and shining. The young pony smiled slightly as she made her way to her destination, adding haste to her gentle and fluid cantering, making her long midnight blue mane and tail flow gently after her, the light playing off the streaks of pink and purple in her silky hair. "I wonder just what the princess has summoned me for." The young pony wondered aloud as she continued her fast, but dignified canter around a corner and up a flight of stairs leading to the corridors of the two princesses' studies, personal quarters, bed chambers, and the thrown room the they shared. The increasingly exited pony paused in front of the door that stood between her and the princess' study, stopping to walk through a mental check list before she proceeded to the door. Making sure to keep a professional appearance for her majesty, she glanced at her mane and tail, ensuring that they were both still well groomed and looked nice. She fussed with her coat, and even took a second to check her breath. After she was satisfied with herself the young pony trotted up to the large door and used the magic in her horn to grasp the handle telekinetically and pull it open slowly as she walked in, projecting an air of confidence and pride as she approached the mare sitting at the desk near the center of the room. "Good evening Princess Celestia." she said with respect and a hint of formality. She had been studying under the princess for almost as long as she could remember, having been just a filly when she had been accepted as the princess' personal apprentice. She felt an great sense of respect and admiration towards the beautiful and elegant white mare, and felt like almost a daunter to her.  "Why hello Twilight Sparkle." said the regal looking mare, glancing up from her papers and documents smiling warmly to her student."Ever the punctual pony I see." She said with a grin and a glimmer of pride in her eye as she looked at her dear apprentice. "Yes princess, I would never keep you waiting." She smiled back, happy at the praise of her mentor. The regal mare was tall with a thin and elegantly curvaceous body. Her snow white coat was piercingly bright in all but the area on either side of her plot where the symbol of a sun elegantly shone out like a golden flame in a meadow of snow. Her beautiful and spectacularly colorful hair danced like an aurora, constantly flowing as if by an invisible breeze. The princess continued on in her calm and casual yet elegant manner of speaking, "My dear student Twilight I've called you here tonight after great thought and consideration for your help in a matter i believe you've become very familiar with. It involves my dear and beloved sister Luna who as you know has recently come back to us, due in no small part to the courageous and daring efforts of you and your newly found friends." The princess smiled inwardly thinking of the way Twilight and her friends had gone through a perilous quest in order to rescue her and free her sister from the dark clutches of her alter ego Nightmare Moon. "Oh princess It was nothing really, we simply did what we had to do to see you home safe and sound, it was our duty as your loyal subjects, but please continue. What is this task you have for me?" she asked modestly smiling at the praise from her teacher and mentor. "As you know Twilight I sent you to Ponyville in the hopes that you would make friends and learn about the magic that true friends share. And as it did when Nightmare Moon threatened all of Equestria the time has come for you to use what you've learned of friendship to aid your princess." She said looking down on her apprentice with great pride in her accomplishments and even greater expectations for her future.
"As long as there is a way for me to help Princess Celestia I promise you can count on me!" she said confidently.  "I'm glad to see that you're so enthusiastic about your new task young one, but you should wait to hear it." she chuckled a little at the pony's eagerness. Twilight just smiled blushing lightly, what could she say? she was exited! Ready to do anything to help the princess who she so desperately wanted to please and make proud, whose approval meant almost as much to her as the very horn on her head. "Your task dear Twilight will be to bring my dear sister Luna back with you to Ponyville  and to help her learn how to become more sociable. she's been so lonesome and reclusive since her return, though a thousand years is not much to us in comparison to the full length of our lives she is still very young for an alicorn and I fear that I was to harsh in my decision to punish her for so long. So I have decided that I will charge you with the care of my dearest sister and also her with her education in the ways of friendship." "Princess I don't know what to say i'm so honored that you would trust me with such a big responsibility." She said almost in disbelief. "I've informed Luna of my decision and i'll now explain to you the exact directions of your assignment, are you ready young one?" "Yes princess."  Twilight responded. "Firstly it is my intention that by your example and assistance that luna become more friendly and outgoing, and that she learn of the great values of friendship." Said the princess to Twilight clarifying her purpose."Secondly she will be staying with you in your library, in order for you to ensure that she will be safe and cared for, also you are to treat her as a room mate, not as a guest. From the moment she leaves the palace in Canterlot tonight, she will be an equal to any other pony in Equestria. Lastly while she is in your care I have returned to her the ability to raise and lower the moon, I want her to feel like every other pony but to remember that she is still my cherished sister and I trust her. do you understand your instructions young Twilight?" she asked. "Yes Princess Celestia, I understand completely, I'll make sure that she feels at home in Ponyville." Promised the young pony dutifully to her mentor. After Twilight had said this, Celestia walked slowly from behind her desk and over to Twilight, her voice wavered a bit as she laid her head down onto Twilights shoulder and said "Take good care of her Twilight." Twilight took in a deep breath of the familiar and confronting scent her teacher held, she smiled warmly and said softly to her dear teacher and mentor, "I will Celestia, I promise I'll look after her." The princess broke a single tear before lifting her head and looking into Twilights deep lilac eyes "Fare well my dear student." she said steadying her voice. "My sister should be waiting for you outside in the corridor, I'll let the night run long this once to allow you both to sleep before luna will lower the moon in the morning as I rise the sun, for the first time in a thousand years, we will have done this together." She said smiling to herself.
